About TSC

Founders Chris Cutcliffe and Hunter Taylor have been close friends since the two started collaborating back in 2017.

Taylor - a faculty member at the University of Mississippi, and Cutcliffe – the head football coach for Oxford High School, bonded like most friends do over shared interests and values.

But they also connected through the similar reverence each had for their fathers’ work as revered football coaches in the towns and states they grew up in.

Chris’ father, David, was the Tennessee offensive coordinator and the Ole Miss head football coach during his childhood in Knoxville and Oxford.

And Hunter’s father, Bruce, was the defensive coordinator for White Oak High School and then Barbers Hill High School during his childhood in small-town East Texas.

As a result of these upbringings, both grew up with a heightened awareness that it’s hard to understand areas of the country like they grew up in without an appreciation for rituals like the pageantry of an SEC Saturday or the Friday night lights of a Texas High School stadium. Events like these dominate the conversations in most social settings – maybe even too much. But they also bring people together in these regions like nothing else.

Taylor Sports Club is a storytelling event that celebrates this idea.

Taylor Sports Club (TSC) was born in a place where time moves slower, in the little town of Taylor, Mississippi — a few winding miles outside Oxford, where front porches still matter and the past hangs in the air like humidity in July. For Chris and Hunter, the town’s quiet reverence for the past and deep sense of community felt like the perfect place to bring an idea to life — one rooted in the memories they cherished most from growing up around sports and on teams: long bus rides after a game, locker rooms echoing with celebration, and the sacred bonds that forever tie teammates and coaches who dared to chase something bigger than themselves.

The pilot gathering  of TSC was held inside Lost Dog Coffee - tucked in the heart of Taylor’s majestic Plein Air neighborhood - and featured a conversation with David Cutcliffe. A few months later, a second meeting took place to refine the idea, and it featured Mississippi State’s Hall of Fame baseball coach, Ron Polk. Both were incredible, and each coach, in his own way, caused the audience to not only laugh and remember the times when their teams gave them so much joy to follow, but also to reflect on the life lessons that each coach had to offer.

Now in a semi-regular format, Chris and Hunter have committed to making Taylor Sports Club a unique, cultural event that people look forward to attending with their friends, their family, and even their old teammates and coaches.
